38 - moving and movies

every year since college, a certain person in my life (whom i like to call cb) has helped me move from one apartment to the next. this year i didn't happen to need his assistance, as the majority of my belongings were packed into storage by a moving company, so i could move to a smaller (read: cheaper) place for a short-term lease while i contemplate where i want to be in 3 months. bless his little u-haul-loving heart, i think his feelings were slightly hurt. who knew some people enjoyed moving?

note to self: console cb with the fact that at the end of the summer, you will likely request his help moving elsewhere in cbus or potentially to atl. it's also possible that he will refuse the latter, as he may be among those people opposed to the idea of you residing in a different state.

it also happens that this year cb decided to put down some roots and buy himself a starter home (read: 4 bedrooms, 2 stories - hardly a starter home by my definition, but i digress) nearby. he needed help moving, so i sucked it up and volunteered my services, with the stipulation that neither sweating profusely nor lifting anything over 25 pounds be required.

so, during the last week of may on thursday and friday night, i helped him move. that saturday, i helped him organize his life in his new house, and he is now the proud owner of the world's most anal-retentive/organized-to-a-fault closet. i have threatened his life if he messes it up. and yes, i may have been present for more of the moving chaos than either of his two roommates. i am just that awesome...or they're that un-awesome. take it as you will.

note to self: you hate moving. please stop doing it so much. i know you were being a good friend/returning the favor, but seriously? remember how un-fun this is for future reference.

because i was extremely helpful/wonderful/amazing/albeit borderline psychotic about the closet thing, cb has decided that i deserve a present. thus, he bought us tickets to go to the capa summer movie series! um, hi - an excuse to go downtown, watch old movies in a gorgeous theatre, and dress up? yes, yes, and triple-yes.

so here are the movies we have already decided upon:

slapshot - circa 1977, starring paul newman, etc.
reason: cb says this is the funniest movie about hockey EVER. as it is my personal opinion that nothing can top mighty ducks 1 & 2, i am intrigued by this theory.

indiana jones: raiders of the lost ark - circa 1981, starring harrison ford, etc.
reason: cb says it is ludicrous (meaning absurd, not to be confused with my mild-to-moderate obsession with chris "ludacris" bridges) that i have never in all my 25 years seen a single indiana jones movie. i don't feel like i'm missing much. i mean, look at that picture.

ben-hur - circa 1959, starring charlton heston, etc.
reason: evidently this movie holds the record for most academy awards EVER. and here all this time i thought it was titanic. cb thinks this is reason enough for us to go, and i tend to agree, as i'm interested to see what could possibly one-up, "i'll never let go, jack. i'll never let go" with soaring celine dion vocals in the background. for the record, my parents also can't believe i questioned this choice at all.

steel magnolias - circa 1989, starring sally field, julia roberts, and 85,000 other female celebrities
reason: one of the best chick-flicks that has ever been made, and it's also a chance for me to practice/perfect my southern accent. plus, this is one of cb's favorite chick-flicks, so he won't even complain. actually, he chose this movie, too. one would think i had no choice in the matter at all. really, it's that i hate making decisions. thank god someone else did it for me.
