okay, or it's just friday and i'm bored and don't feel like working. however, just a sidenote - everyone needs to click the link to watch the music video for "thunder" by boys like girls. that song has been stuck in my head ever since scal put it on a cd she made me for my 8.5 hour roadtrip in mid-june. it's safe to say i might be obsessed.
but enough promotion for a band i don't even really like all that much (aside from one song). this entry is about camping. for those of you who know me well, "nature-lover" is not exactly synonymous with my name. "cal" and "the great outdoors" do not typically go hand in hand. now, give me a cabin in the woods (with running water, electricity, and maybe a hot tub on a patio?), and i'll hike and play outside all day long. but i want a bed and modern amenities waiting for me at night...or at least a tent like this:
so let's discuss how i got convinced to go camping (yes, in a sleeping bag in a normal tent!) this weekend.
i think tc has a list of things she wants to accomplish in order to make her life complete. this summer, she's already bought a second puppy and gone sky-diving. another thing on her list was to find the nearest blob (as pictured in my "summer calendar" entry), so we could live out the fun we witnessed in the movie "heavyweights" - minus the psychotic camp counselor (though if ben stiller showed up, he could probably share my tent and regale us with hilarious stories).
tc found a nearby lake and campground, convinced our out of town friends to travel three hours to go with us, and planned the whole trip. she then proceeded to tell me, "i promise there is running water. and you know how you are, when we tell stories and show you our pictures, you'll be so jealous if you don't go." damnit, she's right.
so i borrowed a sleeping bag from a more outdoorsy person, and i've spent the last week coming up with reasons why camping isn't going to be as bad as i think:
1. we're only going for one measly day. i can survive one day without electricity, right? i mean, i'll look like a hot mess on sunday morning, i'm sure, but so will everyone else. that's the beauty of camping!
2. we're going to be drinking for the majority of the day/night, and yes, i am bringing vodka and mixers in my cooler! i might get made fun of, but i can guarantee you at least one person tries to mooch off me. so not only will the drinking part be fun, but it also means i will most likely be significantly intoxicated, so hopefully i'll be able to pass out in my sleeping bag and not obsess about the fact that i'm literally sleeping on the ground.
3. aside from the blob, the campsite also has trampolines in the water (sounds dangerous, yes, but also fun!), putt-putt, tennis courts (for me, also dangerous), and little beaches to lay out on.
4. seven of my favorite people in the world will be in attendance, along with some other random people who aren't quite as awesome, but are still okay. but seriously, having seven of my friends around makes anything fun!
5. one word and one word only: S'MORES. is there anything that tastes better than the delicious combination of graham cracker-marshmallow-chocolatey goodness? if so, i haven't found it.
yummm...i think this makes putting up with the inconvenience of camping totally worth it.
